Water in the Desert

This thrust movement pushed the rocks a distance by as much as 60 miles from west to east. Imagine the amount of energy this movement released-enough energy to crush the limestone at the fault zones and cause vertical cracks in the sandstone. In time, snow melt and rain runoff carved canyons along these vertical cracks.

Exploring these canyons, one can find water falls and running streams, a dramatic contrast to the arid desert surrounding these geological wonders.
