Rock Climbing Among the "Fossilized" Sand Dunes

About 180 M years ago, the area became more arid and the shallow sea became buried by wind blown sand. The sand piled up in layers that changed with the direction of the wind. Over time, the dunes "fossilized" and today form a cliff system 3,000 feet high and nearly 20 miles long.

The red speck near the center of the image is a rock climber scaling the "dunes".
