An Instructor's Not So Comprehensive Guide to Designing Instructional Support in an On-line Environment

Modeling Populations with STELLA Software

This STELLA population model is based upon some of the information found in a speech by Professor Stephen Hawking. The streaming Realaudio speech is located on a Sun Microsystem Web site. The run time software to display the model is available at no charge, from High Performance Systems Corporation. Make sure the software is saved in a convenient area on your computer.

Once downloaded, the model will need to be unstuffed (unzipped). The software to unstuff this .sit model can be found at Aladdin Systems Inc. Make sure you download the program appropriate to your computer.

The procedure for viewing the model is as follows if your browser does not automatically unstuff it.:

  • Locate pop.stm.sit in your download folder. If you can not find it, use the find file command for your computer.
  • Once located, double click on the name. If you have the Aladdin Systems Inc. Expander program on your computer, the file will automatically expand.
  • Once the program has expanded, double click on the name pop.stm and the file will automatically open in the Stella Run-time software program- provided that Stella is installed on your computer.
