An Instructor's Not So Comprehensive Guide to Designing
Instructional Support in an On-line Environment

On-Line Exams

On-line exams are an excellent way to provide assessment for your students. A site which will help you in this endeavor is located at:

http://www.igb.umontreal.ca/~leon/exam.html

To observe this exam in action, click the sample exam button below. The sample exam uses in-line images (IMG) as part of the assessment procedure. Sometimes they do not load properly so it is a good idea to provide the URL within the question. This will allow the student to copy and paste the URL into the location bar of the browser.

If the above server is down for some reason, then the program is not accessible for submitting and grading.

If you do not have a server to place the exam on, no problem. Just place the exam on a disk, give it to the student and have him/her open it up within their browser. They can take the exam and it will be sent directly to the instructor's e-mail address upon completion.

As part of your assessment techniques, you may have a question which refers to information related to textual material as well. Providing the URL within the question would take the student directly to that web server to search for, and respond to, the question directly.

By the way, taking this online exam and submitting it, will send the results directly to my e-mail address.
