School District Staff Development Potential

On-line Assessments

Based upon the workshop in image processing, a "Transfer of Training Evaluation" survey would need to be implemented 6-7 months following this specific workshop. The information gathered would help the staff development department determine the success rate for implementing the workshop/training. After all, if there is no change or at least a meaningful implementation of the methods taught in the workshop, then there is some sort of disconnect between the training and implementation phase of the training

Based upon the Waste Isolation Division of Westinghouse Electric Corporation "Transfer of Training Evaluation" Model, an implementation of training assessment model is under development. The assessment will help this particular school district ascertain the success rate for implementing the objectives taught in its web-based workshop in Image Processing. The assessment will also help in determining if any problems that might have been inherent in the implementation of the objectives.

Survey of Knowledge/Skill Tranference in Image Processing

To help the staff development department evaluate the effectiveness this workshop, please answer the following questions by clicking the appropriate radio button. There are no correct answers. All submissions will be kept confidential. If there are questions please contact me via e-mail.

NOTE: Radio buttons in the questions are calibrated to a neutral position. They may or may not be representative of your view. You are to answer them as you deem appropriate.

1. Before taking the on-line workshop in image processing were you able to operate NIH/Scion Image Processing software ? (In this case there may be no transfer of knowledge based upon the workshop if the participant answers in the affirmative. Further probing is required because the participant may be familiar with certain aspects of this software but not the objectives taught in this workshop).

Yes
No

2a. Before this workshop were you able to density slice an image? (This question is more specific and allows the evaluator to focus upon the objectives of the workshop.)

Yes
No

2b. Can you currently density slice an image? ( If a participant answers this question in the negative , then the participant is asked to go to question y - learning may not have taken place. If the answer is in the affirmative then the participant is asked to rate the implementation of the objectives into his/her own teachings)

Yes.
No.

2c. How often do you apply your knowledge of density slicing to your teachings? (if the answer is 0 (Never) then transfer of training from the workshop to the teaching environment has not occurred.

0= Never
1= Once per year during a specific unit
2= Once or Twice per semester
3= Several times during one semester only
4= Monthly
5= Weekly
6= Daily

  0 1 2 3 4 5 6

2d. If your answer to 2c was 0 (Never), please explain why:

Thank you for completing this survey.

Based upon the participants' answers to questions formated in this manner, transfer of training can produce a quantitative result. For this question (2a- 2c) to qualify as a transfer of knowledge/training, it would have to be answered in the following manner:

a. would require an answer of No

b. would require an answer of Yes

c. would require a score other than 0 (Never)

Therefore, if 20 participants were involved in the workshop and 12 answered question 2 in this manner, then transfer of knowledge/training for this particular skill/objective would be 60%.

To determine the total rate of knowledge/training transference for the workshop, all of the percentage scores for each objective would be added and then divided by the total number of objectives/skills assessed.

Further analysis of each question's component would lead the evaluator to other insights concerning the effectiveness of the workshop.
