Professional Educators Growth System 

This online workshop was designed to help meet the inservice needs of science teachers in a school district in Florida. In this regard the following domains are addressed in this workshop:

  • Knowledge of Subject Matter: Using image processing techniques in the classroom, the science teacher will have a knowledge and skill level not found in many K-12 teachers. The techniques learned in this workshop will allow teachers to apply their knowledge to help students analyze images in the same manner that research scientist collect and analyze information from remote sensors.

  • Learning Environment: The use of image processing techniques provides teachers with a means to develop and provide a "hands-on, minds-on" learning experience and environment not unlike actual scientific investigations.

  • Critical Thinking: The use of image processing techniques will equip the classroom teacher to provide students with opportunities to collaborate with one another on projects, to explore and to be creative in their approach to problem solving.

  • Technology: The use of images and computers can add realism to the study of science.

  • Continuous Improvement: This workshop engages the teaching professional in self-directed and life long learning.

  • Professional Relationships: This workshop will involve teachers in dialogues with other professionals in the field of education.

  • Communication: Precise language in image processing provides an effective communication technique with students in developing problem-solving strategies.
